A. NO! Typical backup cameras are installed on the back of the trunk lid or on the vehicle bumper. Phantom ICU Car Camera® is a FULL-TIME rear view camera to see behind you and in your blind spots while you drive or backup. It is far superior and has a much better angle of view than typical automotiverear view mirror. Normally our camera is installed on top of the vehicle roof, and sometimes on top of the trunk of some convertibles.
A. Possibly, if you know a little about installing automotive accessories. The Phantom ICU Car Cam System™ comes with all necessary easy to follow instructions. Includes 12V cigarette lighter DC power cable needed to power the system from your vehicle's 12V cigarette lighter. Once 12V power is connected to the monitor, simply plug in the Phantom ICU Car Camera® cable into the monitor once the camera is installed. Installation of the roof top camera may be fairly simple to difficult depending on the vehicle. If you have a factory roof top antenna with hole already in place then it will be the easiest type of installation. It may be necessary to drill a hole on the roof of your vehicle, this will not damage the vehicle if done correctly! Professional installation by an authorized installer is always recommended.

A "STEP" Drill bit is always used for this reason because it does not damage the sheet metal or "skin" of a vehicle. Also you must use a swatch of masking tape on the hole area to avoid having the paint chip. Finally be sure to seal the edges of the bare metal with touch up paint or testers paint. Professional installation by an authorized installer is always recommended.
